Everything You Need To Know About Vedic Maths Sutras & Tricks

According to famous reports, Vedic Maths is nothing but a swift system of calculation. Once the student has learnt the 16 sutras, he or she can solve a long problem within a matter of seconds. While some may refer to the procedure as ‘tricks’, you need to know that you can perform operations through numerous shortcuts. So, here’s what you ought to know about the sutras.

As per the Vedic literature, there’s nothing synonymous to sutras. These are referred as 50 words in Sanskrit that were first found in Tirthaji’s book. But, one of the ancient mathematicians stated that these were Shankaracharya’s Parishishta related to the Atharvaveda.

Though you may have the impression that sutras signify mathematical ideas, you are actually wrong. For instance, “Ekadhikena purvena” doesn’t convey the full sense with respect to the context. As the group of words is interpreted in different ways, additional contextual factors might imply that the sutras mean something in particular. There’s no such context for the sutras when it’s just words arranged in a better way.

The so called sutras are just tabs associated with certain problems. As the person has to comprehend the tricks, the procedure for operations may have to be altered in some way or the other. Some of the “sub-sutras” are very much general when tabs are emphasized. They have no purpose apart from showing off Sanskrit as the ancient language.

By and large, the Vedic Maths tricks are much old than you had ever imagined. These are concepts which give a foundation to perform operations. Believe it or not, Tirthaji’s book represents lack of knowledge of Indian mathematics. This can be situation when the individual is trying to be superlative about the accomplishments stated in the past.

To know more about Vedic Maths, do enroll your little one to a class near to your residence. After some time, you would surely be happy to observe improvements with his or her skills. Alternatively, you can also let your child join an Abacus maths center.

Vedic Maths Secrets Every Child Must Know

If you haven’t heard about Vedic Maths is all about, then the system is derived from ancient scriptures known as the Vedas. Once you enroll your little one to a reputed coaching class, he or she can improve skills through numerous tricks. As a parent, you may not realize the benefits. But, sometime later, the child would certainly be quick in solving questions asked in a competitive exam.

Finding the square of a number ending in 5
If the child needs to find the square of 35, then he should know that the result would be ending with 25. Later, he should find the product of 3 and the number that precedes 5.  As he comes with 12 as the answer, the square of 35 would be 1225. In order to master the trick, the child shouldn’t forget to practice squaring numbers regularly. The little one should follow the same procedure when he needs to find the square of three digit numbers.

Subtracting a number from 1000
Consider an operation which involves subtracting 356 from 1000. At such an instance, the child simply has to go through simple steps. He can come up with the answer by subtracting 6 from 10 and 3 as well as 5 from 9. So, the end solution comes out to be 754.
Finding the cube root of a number
Before your child starts off, he should have memorized the cubes of a number from 1 to 9. In this case, we have considered finding the cube root of 2744. So, the first step would be to find the cube of 4 which equals to 64. Later, you need to place the digit, ‘4’ in the unit’s position and determine the digit in the hundredth’s position. As ‘2’ is nearer to the cube of 1, the final answer is 14.

Dividing numbers by 5
For finding the answer when 72 is divided by 5, the divisor, 5 has to be multiplied with 2. Accordingly, you should carry out the operation with the numerator as well. Later, you arrive at the answer as 14.4. This is one of the easiest Vedic Maths tricks ever thought about.

Benefits Of Abacus Maths

Abacus is a very old device which has been used in many regions. Much before the adoption of written numerical system, the tool was used for performing arithmetic calculations. An abacus can be nicknamed as the ‘first computer’ with a framework along with beads aligned on rods. So, if you’re thinking to enroll for Abacus classes, then here are some benefits you child can reap.

Builds a foundation for maths
Mathematics can often be the most difficult subject for children. However, learning Abacus maths can actually build understanding since the time when the child is getting developed from all aspects. Besides, you as a parent can always observe a considerable improvement in hand-eye coordination as kids count the beads. With regular practice at the Abacus institute, the child becomes far more capable to perform calculations mentally.

Enhances logical understanding
Over a period of time, children recall the image of an Abacus to carry out mental calculations. As he tries to arrive at a solution, he starts applying logic based on the movement of the beads. Later, mental maths also helps in developing logic for day-to-day scenarios.

Boosts concentration
According to well known researchers, Abacus training has a positive effect on children. It was observed that students who received training were recognized for high levels of concentration. Besides, as the tool in visualized in the mind, it also helped in improving memory.

Aids in using the right brain
While the left brain is generally used to analyze information, the right hemisphere helps to think in a creative way. In fact, if training is imparted in the right manner, then Abacus maths stimulates the right side. Once the course draws to an end, the child would be amazed at the way in which he could perceive things. The temporal region towards the left-hand side would no longer be used for calculations.

Do enroll your child for Abacus training sessions and help him discover his abilities.

INTERESTING FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ABACUS

Since centuries, Abacus has been known as the ancient calculating device. While the tool is no longer into existence, Abacus is still used by some countries. The entire device comprises a wooden frame, with beads on equally spaced rods. As every bead represents a number, the rods signify different values such as thousands, hundreds and so on. So, if you wish to know more, then go through some interesting facts compiled below

Abacus was first introduced in 460 BCE by Herodotus who was a Greek historian. The counting board was designed way back in 1846. When people starting off with the research, they found the tool hailing from Salamis. Today, the board makes it easier to deal with operations like addition and subtraction.
.
China is one of the countries where the Abacus is widely used. The Chinese version is popularly known as the ‘Suanpan’. The inhabitants living in the country still use the device while the modern era is using scientific calculators. Even when the rules were reported in 200 BCD, the tool aids in performing addition and subtraction in the most precise way.
.
After a diligent research, it was observed that Abacus was created by the Romans. But, according to archaeologists, the abacus was initially created in 100 CE. It’s quite interesting to know that the Romans used pebbles (calculi) for mathematical operations. These were nothing but small stones arranged on a smooth table with thin slots..
.
As it’s evident that Abacus offers an ancient way of counting, people stopped using the tool. Rather, individuals started using electronic calculators for carrying out complex calculations. When you skim through history, people abandoned the idea of using the abacus in 1974. While the abacus became famous across the world, in western countries, a frame was crafted similar to the Russian Abacus. This is perceived as a wooden toy with straight wires instead of wooden rods. Believe it or not, but a 10-wire version was introduced to teach kids with every bead denoting one unit. Till today, India is known for many Abacus institutes..

In the ancient Aztec culture, the abacus was known as the ‘Nepōhualtzintzin’. During that period, the Abacus was divided into parts distinguished by an intermediate cord. Four beads signifying unitary values were present towards the left hand side, while three beads were present at the right. If a person wanted to know the value, it could be derived by multiplying 20 with each row.

Over a period of time, the Abacus was developed for the blind. The tool was called ‘Cranmer abacus’ and was designed according to the ideas of Tim Cranmer. Instead of incorporating a wooden frame, a soft fabric was placed behind the beads so that they can move in one direction. Not just that, the invention helped the blind to find square roots and cube roots in addition to the basic operations.

Before concluding, it’s always a better idea to enroll your child to an Abacus training institute. Classroom sessions would make learning fun and drive away the fear of executing calculations. Your child would start liking mathematics along with other subjects taught in school.
